Doctors and scientists are working together to develop new treatments for spinal cord injuries affecting each year 1 200 victims in France, and up to 500 000 victims worldwide.
Within a research partnership signed in 2015 by the Brain and spinal cord institute (Institut du Cerveau – ICM), and the University of Auvergne (UdA) in association with the Neuronax company, a collaborative research project has just been initiated.
This project raises high expectations for discoveries on spinal cord remediation. It started by early 2016 thanks to the Michelin Foundation’s significant financial support and will need additional funding from private donors and other sponsors.
Doctors and scientists of the Institut du Cerveau – ICM, of the Clermont-Ferrand’s Faculty of Medicine Anatomy Lab and of the Clermont-Ferrand’s University Hospital Department of Neurosurgery, have decided to combine their respective skills in order to provide new therapeutic solutions for victims of road accidents, work-related accidents or sports injuries, seriously disabled by the consequences of a spinal cord trauma.
This human and scientific adventure, linking Paris to Clermont-Ferrand, was kicked off on February 19 th at Clermont-Ferrand’s Marcel Michelin stadium.
