Team “Experimental neurosurgery”

Basal ganglia, neurosurgery, movements disorders
Main domain: Neurophysiology
Subdomain: Clinical & translational neurosciences

Brain LAU & Carine KARACHI’s team aims to characterize the subcortico-cortical anatomy and physiology of brainnetworks involved in motor control, with the long-term goal of developing new therapies including novel applications of deep brain stimulation (DBS).

The team’s future research is oriented along two axes:

  • Anatomical comprehension of networks involving DBS targets
  • Comprehension of these targets using behavioral tasks coupled with electrophysiology.
  • Development of a new direction to test whether neurofeedback—training patients to control their own brain activity—can be used to self-regulate DBS.
