THE ENZYME PDK1 PROMOTES DISEASE PROGRESSION IN PRION AND ALZHEIMER’S DISEASES

Open / close summary

A researcher team (Inserm747, Paris-Descartes) with Stephane Haïk (Inserm UMR 975,Institut du Cerveau – ICM) found that the kinase PDK1 is involved in the accumulation, in the neurons, of both pathological proteins Aβ (Alzheimer disease) and PrPSc (prion disease). These researchers have shown that the inhibition of PDK1 reduces the diseases progression. The PDK1 pharmacological blocking leads to a positive effect on these neurodegenerative diseases.
